dc.description.abstract In this study, we investigate the effect of flexibility on power extraction of flapping-tidal generator. The described flexibility in chord and spanwise directions are given in two-dimension (2D) and three-dimension (3D) numerical simulations. The flapping type turbine works based on coupling plunge motion and pitch motion of a foil. The 3D effect is considerable when power efficiency is reduced seriously in 3D. Numerical result shows that significant improvement is achieved in power efficiency from flexible flapper. In comparison, the chord wise flexure could produce more advantage on power efficiency than spanwise flexure. Our study can be used in an optimal design for flapping tidal turbine.ns.
