dc.description.abstract Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products as Pollutants (PPCPs) refer, in general, to any product used by individuals for personal health or cosmetic reasons or used by agribusiness to enhance growth or health of livestock. The drugs that we take are not entirely absorbed by our bodies, and are excreted and passed into wastewater and surface water. In this research, we studied the physiological aspect, and transcriptional responses of the hydra (Hydra magnipapillata) against to exposure of three pain relievers. The Diclofenac-, Naproxen-, and Ibuprofen-induced acute toxicity in Hydra were evaluated. For all three drugs, the median lethal concentrations of the animals (LC50) were determined. To define the repertoire of Hydra genes responding to acute exposure of PPCPs, transcriptome dynamics were examined in a series of exposure time (6 h, 24 h and 48 h) by using 17 K Hydra Expressed Gene Microarray (HEGEM) which contains about 17,000 singletons. The gene ontology analysis was carried out on the obtained differentially expressed genes after exposed to the three kinds of pain relievers.we take are not entirely absorbed by our bodies, and are excreted and passed into wastewater and surface water.
