dc.description.abstract A purpose of POSEIDON project is to study of the Northwestern Pacific effect on the around sea of Korea. Kuroshio carries heat and salt to the Korean neighboring sea. Kuroshio flows from the North Equatorial Current. A part of Kuroshio is a source of Tsushima Current that is warm and high salinity. To know the ratio of the Northwestern Pacific Water in the Tsushima Current. High salinity water is originated from Kuroshio. However, how much is the Kuroshio water in the Tsushima Current is not known. KIOST have been surveying from Korean waters to the tropical Northwestern Pacific once a year from 2006. There was a Kuroshio section in these surveys in June 2008 and 2010. Based on T-S diagram, 4 water masses were identified in Kuroshio and south sea sections: East China Sea surface water, Yellow Sea Bottom cold water, Subtropical Underwater, and North Pacific central water. Water masses were analyzed in the south sea section with these water masses. This results suggest that the high salinity water in the south sea is originate from the water below Kuroshio high salinity water. source of Tsushima Current that is warm and high salinity.
