Abstract
Some KIOST researchers have been conducting a research project since 2008 to develop a new species identification system using portable DNA extracting equipment and real-time PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) method testing. Another mission of the project is development of a real-time red-tide detection system by analyzing echo characteristics of acoustic signal. KOBIS (Korea Ocean Biogeographic Information System) is playing a role of data infrastructure for the project and is linked with the species identification system and the red-tide detection system. A smart pad application was developed to support in situ data input, which allows marine researchers in the ocean observation field to input their data into the KOBIS DB directly as soon as they collect data.f the project is development of a real-time red-tide detection system by analyzing echo characteristics of acoustic signal.
