dc.description.abstract The response of planktonic ecosystem to Typhoon MUIFA in the Yellow Sea was investigated in summer during three years (2011-2013). We investigated concentration of nutrient and chlorophyll-a, and mesozooplankton community after passage of Typhoon MUIFA (2011) and no passage (2012, 2013). After passage of Typhoon MUIFA, water mass was relatively well mixed through the whole water column in 2011, while it was characterized by typical stratification dividend by high surface waters and the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water in summer 2012 and 2013. Higher concentration of nutrient (nitrate and phosphate) was input into the photic layer and the related higher concentration of total chlorophyll-a and high abundances were distributed in the surface waters in 2011. The opposite pattern of nutrients and chlorophyll-a concentration was found in the surface waters in 2012 and 2013. The higher abundances were found in the surface water in 2011, while higher abundances were observed in the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Waters in 2012 and 2013. Present results indicated that water mixing by Typhoon can enhance concentration of phytoplankton and surface occurrence of zooplankton in the Yellow Sea in summer.f Typhoon MUIFA (2011) and no passage (2012, 2013).
