dc.description.abstract | To study the influences of physical process on phytoplankton biomass in the shallow marginal sea, spatial and temporal variations in physiochemical parameters in southeastern Yellow Sea (YS) were investigated in summer of 2010 to 2013. The temperature of surface waters mostly were over 25oC except for 2011 when it mostly around 20oC. The low salinity (<31) of surface water were observed in 2012 and 2013. The subsurface chlorophyll maximum (SCM) layer become shallow from open sea to coastal sea and formed within thermocline and over nitracline, which may be related with tidal fronts in the southeastern YS. Of the environmental parameters in 2011 when the strong typhoon passed through the center of Yellow Sea three days ago, before measured, the concentration of nutrient and chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) in the upper layer was demonstrated to be present at the high levels compared to that in other years. The Yellow Sea Cold Water (YSCW) may rapidly lead to natural recover of water stability after the passage of typhoon in the YS, which may be an important parameter in the distribution of Chl-a concentration after the summer typhoon. These results suggest that the distribution of nutrients and chlorophyll-a concentration in the YS may be mainly affected on the formed front between warm and cold water masses, and the path of typhoon during summer.temperature of surface waters mostly were over 25oC except for 2011 when it mostly around 20oC.
