Abstract
The genus Chlamydomonas is an eukaryotic green microalgae, used for physiological, biochemical and genetic research, and it has been investigated for the production of bioenergy under various environmental conditions. Recently, a number studies on the use of Chlamydomonas were reported for improved production of bioethanol and biodiesel. In this study, we cultured Chlamydomonas sp. KIOST-1 in different media (BBM, BG11 and TAP), and the changes of cellular monosaccharide and fatty acid compositions were estimated. The total monosaccraide content was measured to be 12.7 (BBM), 12.4 (BG11) and 17.5 mg/100mg (TAP), respectively. The dominant monosaccharide of Chlamydomonas sp. KIOST-1 cultured in three media was D-glucose which was anlyzyed from BG11 (58.2%), BBM (51. 9%) and TAP (37.4%), respectively. Furthermore, fatty acid composition of the microalga shows different tendency in three media. Proportions of polyunsaturated fatty acid were highly composed in the cell of Chlamydomonas sp. KIOST-1 cultured in BBM (71.1%) and TAP (65.8%), relatively, and dominant fatty acid was 18:3ω3 (BBM: 34.8% and TAP: 31.1%). Contrary, the microalga cultured in BG11 was contained high amount of monounsaturated fatty acid (41.4%), and dominant fatty acid was 18:1ω9 (33.1%). In the future, Chlamydomonas sp. KIOST-1 will be culture for investigation of advantageous characteristics for bioethanol and biodiesel production using differentdies on the use of Chlamydomonas were reported for improved production of bioethanol and biodiesel.
