Abstract
We investigated the summer vertical distribution of the copepod when the water column is characterized by stratification in summer 2010 and relatively well-mixed after passage of typhoon at a fixed station in summer 2011. Plankton sampling and the related environmental factors were immediately carried out shortly after typhoon MUIFA passed through the station northward in summer 2011. On the contrary, the water column at the same station was very stable and stratified in summer 2010 when no typhoon was passed. The water column was thermally clearly stratified with high surface temperature (28.3 to 28.6 ℃) in 2010, whereas it was weakly stratified with surface temperature (20.19 to 20.41 ℃) in 2011. Unlike surface salinity, bottom salinity was different at water (32.58-32.60 psu) below 40m in 2010, at water (33.77-33.80 psu) below 50m in 2011. Nutrients concentration (Nitrate, phosphate and silicate) of the subsurface waters in 2011 was higher than that in 2010, in accordance with chlorophyll-a concentration and standing crops of phytoplankton. Vertical distributional pattern of female adults and copepodites (CIV and CV) of Calanus sinicus was clearly different between 2010 and 2011. The difference of abundance between 2010 and 2011 was not clear now, but occurrence of large abundance of female adults and copepodite 5 at surface waters in 2011 was likely might be related to the low temperature as a result of mixinand the related environmental factors were immediately carried out shortly after typhoon MUIFA passed through the station northward in summer 2011.
