Abstract
The confining transverse reinforcement has arranged in plastic hinge region to resist the lateral load which increased the lateral confining effect in the substructure of bridge. Columns are increased the seismic performance through secure of the stiffness and ductility. Calculation method of confining transverse reinforcements is reported in AASHTO-LRFD specification. This specification is only proposed for sold RC column. In this reason, if this specification is applied for another column as composite column besides solid RC column, proper evaluation of column cannot be done. In particular, composite hollow RC column have limits for applying this specification. The composite hollow RC column is consist of transverse, longitudinal reinforcement, cover concrete, core concrete, and inner tube is inserted on hollow face. It makes the increase of ductility, strength, and stiffness in composite hollow RC column. In this paper suggested the modified equation for economics and rational design through investigation of displacement ductility when applied the existing specification at the composite hollow RC column. Moreover, parametric study is performed for evaluating the detail behavior. Using these results, calculation method of economic transverse reinforcements is proposed.of the stiffness and ductility.
