Abstract
Ambient noise is always present in the sea, just like in the air. The oceanic ambient noise is one of the basic phenomena in the ocean acoustics. The ambient noise is necessary to predict the detection performance of sonar systems. Also, the ambient noise is used as a signal for monitoring the sources to generate it. In order to understand the characteristics of ambient noise in the Korean coastal waters, we have studied the wind noise, the surf noise, the rain noise, and the snapping shrimp noise. In this paper, the results of these studies are briefly presented.e ambient noise is used as a signal for monitoring the sources to generate it.
