Abstract
On-site treatment for the remediation of contaminated marinesediments (environmental dredged materials) in KOREA was investigated on the basis of particleseparation and washing technologies to solve the scarcity of various treatment and disposalmethods. Due to the restriction of domestic environmental standards relate with ocean dumping, the determination of alternative treatment methods could be one of the most important factors forenvironmental dredging projects. More than 250 methods have been used in the remediation ofcontaminated sediments at well developed nations such as U.S.A. and European countries.Although the remediation mechanism of contaminated marine sediments is similar to that of soil, particle size distribution, high contents of organic matters and the presence of chlorine ionsmight be also limit factors comparing to the remediation of contaminated soil. If remediationprocess be conducted on-site (or immediate area) of target area followed by environmentaldredging, the mass transportation hardship of dredged materials and the lack of treatment area(upland/near shore) will not take place. disposalmethods.
