Abstract
Concentrations of 210Po in oyster and mussel were determined to assess the annual effective dose through the digestion in South Korea. The amount of oyster and mussel production is very high and their annual consumption rate among seafood occupies top 10% in South Korea. Oyster and mussel were collected from five and two cultivation areas (oyster: Seosan, Boryeong, Wando, Yeosu and Tongyeong mussel: Yeosu and Tongyeong) with high productivity in South Korean coast during November 2012. The activities of oyster and mussel showed ranges of 45.3±5.3 - 216±8 and 42.7±4.1 – 49.4±7 Bq/kg wet, respectively. It was found that the activity of oyster was higher in western coast than in southern coast. Effective doses of 210Po estimated on the basis of the annual amounts of consumption of oyster and mussel (619 and 128g, respectively) were 33.7-161 and 6.59 – 7.58μSv/y, respectively in South Korea.ccupies top 10% in South Korea.
