dc.description.abstract The response of planktonic ecosystem to Typhoon passage was assessed in the Yellow Sea in summer during four years (2010-2013). We investigated the summer vertical distribution of a copepod population at a fixed station when the water column was stratified in summer 2010 and relatively well-mixed after typhoon MUIFA passage in summer 2011. And, spatial distribution in concentration of nutrient and chlorophyll-a, and mesozooplankton community was investigated in the southeastern Yellow Sea after the Typhoon “MUIFA” (2011) and no passage (2012, 2013). Unlike the well-mixed water column in the study area in 2011, typical stratification divided water mass by high surface waters and the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water in summer 2012 and 2013.The water column at a fixed station was thermally clearly stratified with high surface temperature (28.3 to 28.6 ℃) in 2010, whereas it was weakly stratified with surface temperature (20.19 to 20.41 ℃) in 2011. Nutrients concentration (Nitrate, phosphate and silicate) of the subsurface waters in 2011 was higher than that in 2010, in accordance with chlorophyll-a (chl-a) concentration and standing crops of phytoplankton. Vertical distributional pattern of female adults and copepodites (CIV and CV) of Calanus sinicus was clearly different between 2010 and 2011. The difference of C.sinicus abundance between 2010 and 2011 was not clear, but occurrence of large abundance of female adun was stratified in summer 2010 and relatively well-mixed after typhoon MUIFA passage in summer 2011.
