Abstract
Ferromanganese (Fe-Mn) crust is the geologic archive recording deep-sea environmentalchanges through geologic periods since the Late Cretaceous or Paleogene. Due to its slowgrowth rate (several mm/My), a precise age dating has been issued. Recently, Oda et al.(2011) proposed that an ultrafine-scale magnetostratigraphy, obtained by a scanningsuperconducting quantum interference device magnetometer (SSM), can be an alternativehigh-resolution age determination tool for the ferromanganese crust. In the present study, wecollected Fe-Mn crusts in the Magellan Seamounts, the West Pacific (~20 °N) and selected awell-laminated crust with a thickness of ~10 cm.ed.
