dc.description.abstract Marine sponges have been a remarkably rich sources of biologically active and structurally diverse natural products. Genus of Agelas is known to be a prolific source of different classes of compounds. Among them, agelasines are a class of natural purine diterpenes possessing 9-N-methyladeninium compounds.1 These compounds have also been described to exhibit a wide array of related bioactivities such as antibiotic, antifouling, and K-ATPase inhibiting effects.2In the course of our continuing investigate for novel secondary metabolites from marine invertebrate, we encountered the sponge Agelas sp. from Kosrae, Micronesia. Guided by the 1H NMR analysis, flash chromatography of the crude extract followed by HPLC yielded a new agelasine derivative, along with five known diterpenes of the agelasine class. The structure of the new compound was determined by combined spectroscopic methods such as COSY, HSQC and HMBC experiment.atural purine diterpenes possessing 9-N-methyladeninium compounds.1 These compounds have also been described to exhibit a wide array of related bioactivities such as antibiotic, antifouling, and K-ATPase inhibiting effects.2In the course of our continuing investigate for novel secondary metabolites from marine invertebrate, we encountered the sponge Agelas sp. from Kosrae, Micronesia.
