The Marine Disaster Research Center conducts research on the establishment of ocean observation research stations and development of ocean forecast systems to monitor and predict ocean environments with high data quality and accuracy in real-time around Korea. We also focus on the development of new technologies to prevent coastal disasters such as large waves, storm surges, beach erosion and sea fogs. In addition, research on the establishment of advanced marine industry open labs and development of realistic convergence ocean-contents is carried out to integrate ICT with ocean science.

한반도 주변 해역에서 고품질의 해양 및 기상 정보를 실시간으로 획득하기 위한 종합 해양관측망을 개발하고 구축하기 위한 연구를 수행하고 있으며, 신속하고 정확한 해양환경 현황 및 예보정보를 생산하기 위하여 해양예측시스템 개발 연구를 하고 있다. 또한, 고파랑, 해일, 연안침식, 해무 등 연안재해 대응기술 개발에 관한 연구와 4차 산업혁명 기술과 해양과학의 융합을 위한 첨단 해양산업 오픈랩 구축 및 실감형 융합 콘텐츠 개발 연구를 수행하고 있다.
