dc.description.abstract The activity concentrations of 239+240Pu and 210Po weredetermined in the marine biota of several tropic levelsliving in the seas around Korean Peninsula to understandthe bioaccumulation of these alpha emittingradionuclides. Marine biota including plankton, macroalgae, crustaceans, mollusks, surface and bottomwater dwelling fishes, and cephalopods were collected in2014. The body concentrations were determined as awhole and in their skin, muscle and internal organs insome samples. The activity concentrations of 239+240Pu in collected biotawere the highest in plankton [20 - 300 m] with 58±10mBq/kg·ww and were exhibited in the descending orderof plankton [20 - 300 m] > plankton [ > 300 m](13±4.0) > abalone (5.4±1.2) > sea mustard(0.80±0.06) > laver (0.64±0.08) > prawn (0.50±0.20) >mackerel (0.30±0.02) > anchovy (0.27±0.10) > squid(0.26±0.06) > flat fish (0.24±0.13) : (unit: mBq/kg·ww).This order indicates that 239+240Pu is highly accumulatedin plankton but the accumulation factor does not increasein upper tropic levels. The activity concentrations of210Po in plankton were 140±50 in the 20 - 300 mplankton fraction and 110±2 Bq/kg·ww in the > 300 mplankton fraction, respectively. The activityconcentration of 210Po in the whole body of anchovypreying on plankton was in the order of 390±2Bq/kg·ww and it was higher than that in plankton.
