Abstract
The storm surges caused by typhoons can sometimes be a danger on the southern coast of Korean Peninsular, where the impact of typhoons is on average two or three times a year. In this study, we tried to simulate wave and storm surge during typhoon Chaba which was the Category 4 typhoon and landed the southeast coast of the Korean Peninsula on October, 2016. Due to the typhoon Chaba, flood inundation and wave overtopping damages occurred in many ports and coasts. The storm surges observed in Masan Port and Busan is about 1.0 m. This tropical storm left severe damage across the southern South Korea, and caused damages of $18.3 million including seven people dead and the Marine city was inundation in Busan. To simulate storm surges and inundations, Delft3D FM with flexible mesh of 300 m minimum grid was calculated by coupling with SWAN. The wind field used the 4 km resolution climate model WRF and typhoon parameter model calculated by KOOS.typhoon Chaba which was the Category 4 typhoon and landed the southeast coast of the Korean Peninsula on October, 2016.
