dc.description.abstract Marine microorganisms are recognized as an important source for drug discovery because microbes produce compounds having different skeleton and diverse bioactivities than terrestrial counterparts [1, 2]. Various compounds of azulene class have been reported from the marine brown alga. And these compounds showed anti-microbial, anti-cancer and anti-viral activities [3, 4, 5]. Interestingly, in this study, we isolated and purified a novel azulene compound from the extract of culture broth of the marine fungus Mycosphaerella sp. 135PIL286 by chromatographic methods. The planar structure of the new compound was elucidated by analysis of 1D, 2D NMR and LC-MS data. And its relative stereochemistry was determined by detailed analyses of coupling constants and NOESY data.ave been reported from the marine brown alga.
