dc.description.abstract Jeju magma seawater (underground seawater, JMS) has high amount of micronutrients as much as 10 times compared with natural seawater. Especially, JMS contains highly inorganic components, Zinc (Z, 0.019 mg/L), Iron (F, 0.015 mg/L), Manganese (M, 0.008 mg/L), Vanadium (V, 0.015 mg/L), Selenium (S, 0.013 mg/L) and Germanium (G, 0.002 mg/L). Limited information has been reported on relation between JMS and growth of marine algae. Growth of Spirulina maxima using micronutrients of JMS especially has not been conducted yet. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the growth of S. maxima with the micronutrients of JMS. Experiment for the growth rate of S. maxima was accomplished using spectrophotometric measurement (λ=664 nm) with 64 modified SOT media of each micronutrient combinations for 14 days. Micronutrients ratio of the culture media was adjusted to each concentration same as JMS. Growth rate of S. maxima containing M+V combination in the media recorded highest absorbance at final day. In contrast, the medium of Z+M+S+G combination recorded the lowest absorbance at sampling time. Scale-up study of S. maxima cultivation should be conducted for accelerating effect of the organic/inorganic compositions of these micronutrients from JMS. -
