dc.description.abstract In the South Sea of Korea (SSK), large C. polykrikoides bloom formed offshore are often transported to coastal waters and gradually accumulated there. Various satellite data have been used for detection of Harmful algal blooms (HABs), but most of them have mainly focused on the use of ocean colour sensors such as SeaWiFS, MODIS, and GOCI. However, there is a limit to detect C. polykrikoides bloom occurring in coastal and offshore by using only ocean colour sensor. The objective of this paper is to attempt spatial fusion and identify synergistic effect for detecting C. polykrikoides bloom using multi-sensor data. For this purpose, the spectral characteristics of C. polykrikoides from in-situ measurement were analyzed, and then the spectral shapes of the red tide areas in each sensor were compared. Based on these results, we applied the red tide algorithms to each sensor data and identified synergistic effect by attempting spatial fusion. It shownthat coastal red tide with high turbidity as well as offshore can be detected through spatial fusion of ocean colour and terrestrial sensor. This result shows that more accurate detection of C. polykrikoides bloom is possible and it is expected to provide comprehensive and wide distribution information in the SSK.ost of them have mainly focused on the use of ocean colour sensors such as SeaWiFS, MODIS, and GOCI.
