Abstract
- Vent Field, the Central Indian Ridge (CIR) with active hydrothermal fields, and investigate their linkage to the climate changes. In the ~4-m-long sediment core having well-established chronology of 14C dates, a total 13 pyroclastic layersconsisting mostly of dark glassy, angular obsidian grains and foraminifers are identified during the last 40 kyr, indicating a series of explosive submarine volcanic eruptions [1]. Such volcanic eruption signals are also evidenced by the high-resolution records of elemental compositions (especially, K, Ca, and Ti), analyzed by using XRF core scanner. Our results reveal that the volcanisms in this area were sparse during the LGM, and largely increased in frequency since then.Of particular interest is a 1300-yr cycle of submarine volcanic eruption after ~16 ka, which is synchronous with the cycle of volcanic activity on land [2]. Our study provides further insights into the dynamics of interaction between the volcanisms and the climate changes (especially, cold events such as DO cycle).
