Abstract
It was discussed that the assessments of biological impacts by contaminated marine sediments and related ecological and human health risk. Marine Sediments are an important matrix for marine environment because Marine sediments are reservoirs of contaminants and habitats of benthic biota.Contaminated Marine Sediment can be Potential contamination source. Pollutant-adsorbed on sediments can be taken up by sediment dwelling organisms and Pollutants in biota are transferred to higher trophic level through biomagnification. Therefore, Contaminated sediments can give direct biological risks to benthic organisms, and they can give indirect risks to Aquatic organism and human through the Food chain. Some studies about “use of benthic organisms as risk evaluation tools for environment or human health were introduce in this presentation.Biochemical response Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity, glutathione S-transferase-theta(GST-T) expression, Metallothionein (MT) induction from tissue of benthic biota are good diagnostic tools for sediment health.Because the contaminated edible tissues of benthic organisms can affect health of human who intake those biota, we can estimate the human health risk by measurements of pollution level in benthic organisms. The benthic organism and their biological impacts from contaminated marine sediments are can be used, as useful risk assessment tools for Environmental and Human Health Rirs of contaminants and habitats of benthic biota.Contaminated Marine Sediment can be Potential contamination source. Therefore, for appropriate management of contaminant in sediments, those biological impacts of benthic biota have been considered to sediment management.
