The Global Ocean Research Center aims to discover and develop emerging biological and geological resources in the ocean through integrated exploration. It is currently carrying out exploration activities with regard to new biological resources and rare metals resources for high-tech industries, focusing on undersea mountains distributed in the West Pacific. The center is expanding the search area for new resources to the oceans around the world.

대양자원연구센터는 대양에 분포하는 다양한 생물‧지질자원의 탐사‧연구를 통해 신자원을 발굴하고 개발을 위한 기반연구를 목표로 하고 있다. 현재 서태평양 공해에 분포하는 해저산을 중심으로 새로운 생명자원과 첨단산업의 필수적인 희유금속 자원 탐사를 수행하고 있으며, 전 세계 대양으로 새로운 자원의 탐색 영역을 넓혀 가고 있다.
